Date: 06/25/2008 Overturning a Louisiana law that allows for the death penalty in cases of child rape, the U.S. Supreme Court today ruled that the death sentence can only be applied when the crime involves the death of another person. The West African country of Sierra Leone is one of the poorest in the world. Life expectancy is around 40 years, income inequality is high and the after affects of a recent civil war still reverberate. That war forced more than 15,000 children to fight as soldiers and now many are suffering from depression and anxiety. We speak with Dr. Suzan Song, a psychiatrist working with the Harvard School of Public Health to deliver mental health care to these adolescents.
