Here and Now for Friday, June 13, 2008
Date: 06/13/2008 With nine rivers at or above historic flood levels, dozens of bridges destroyed, and thousands evacuated, the Governor of Iowa has declared 83 of the state's 99 counties disaster areas. We'll get an update from Josh Hinckle, anchor and reporter for KCRG TV 9, the ABC affiliate in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Maurice Sendak, the writer and illustrator of such children's classics as "Where the Wild Things Are" and "In the Night Kitchen," looks back on his life in art and reflects on turning 80 this week. A major exhibit of his work is now open at the Rosenbach Museum in Philadelphia. A new report finds that at many workplaces across the nation parental leave time is on the decline. Today, only sixteen percent of employers offer fully paid leave for parents, that's down thirty percent from just ten years ago. Our guest is Sue Shellenberger who wrote about the report's findings in one of her recent columns for the Wall Street Journal.
