A user subscribes to a series. They can do this on our website, on the publisher's website, or over the air when someone forwards them a show. Soon we'll let new users subscribe with a phone call or via a short code.
When a series publishes a new show all the subscribers are immediately notified via a text message. The text message includes the series' name, the show subject, and how long the show is. The message also contains the coded access number.
The users look through their text messages and choose what they want to listen to. From most handsets,a user only needs to hit "send" to hear the show. Blackberrys, iPhones, and Treos require you to select the coded access number, and then hit "send."
The connection is made. Your show starts playing. You have full control over your listening experience.
1 Skips back to the beginning of the current chunk (most shows are currently a single chunk. We're hoping more publishers micro-chunk shows as it's a better listening experience).
2 Pauses the program. Hit it again and the show restarts.
3 Skips forward to end of current chunk. In a single chunk show, this plays the next show in the series.
4 Skips you back 5 seconds. It's the "What did he just say?" button, like on a Tivo.
5 Clicking on the content. Functional, but rarely hooked to anything right now. This is the core of the clickable audio ad. This can trigger an email. It can transfer the call to another number (the advertiser's operator or IVR). It can trigger any web app with an open API. If there's clickable audio then there should be a 3-4 second pre-roll describing what clicking does.
6 High speed play. The audio gets sped up to abut 1.3X normal speed (this is great for scanning shows).
7 Allows you to record a comment that will be delivered to the publisher.
8 Allows you to unsubscribe from a series without going to the website. If someone forwards you a show, "8" subscribes you to that series from their handset.
9 Allows you to forward content to any other cell phone. Press "9" and follow the prompts.

If you get to the end of the show, Foneshow automatically plays the next show in the series to which you have not yet listened. If you hang up and call back on the same coded access number, the show picks up where you left off.
When you're done, you simply hang up.
